Multiple time scales hidden in heterogeneous dynamics of glass-forming liquids.
A multitime probing of density fluctuations is introduced to investigate hidden time scales of heterogeneous dynamics in glass-forming liquids. Molecular-dynamics simulations for simple glass-forming liquids are performed and a three-time correlation function is numerically calculated for general time intervals. It is demonstrated that the three-time correlation function is sensitive to the het...
متن کاملShort time dynamics of glass-forming liquids
Calculations have been presented for the intermediate scattering function, dynamic structure factor, and dynamic susceptibility of a complex correlated system undergoing relaxation with independent vibrations. The vibrational contribution was approximated by a Debye spectrum, smoothed at high frequency, while the coupling model was used to describe the relaxation. This model asserts for nonpoly...

We report x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy experiments on the dynamics of the glass-former polypropylene glycol covering a temperature range from room temperature to the glass transition at T(g)=205 K using silica tracer particles. Three temperature regimes are identified: At high temperatures, Brownian motion of the tracer particles is observed. Near T(g), the dynamics is hyperdiffusive a...
متن کاملAnomalous diffusion in heterogeneous glass-forming liquids: temperature-dependent behavior.
In a preceding paper, Langer and Mukhopadhyay [Phys. Rev. E 77, 061505 (2008)] studied the diffusive motion of a tagged molecule in an heterogeneous glass-forming liquid at temperatures just above a glass transition. Among other features of this system, we postulated a relation between heterogeneity and stretched-exponential decay of correlations, and we also confirmed that systems of this kind...
متن کاملQuantifying spatially heterogeneous dynamics in computer simulations of glass-forming liquids
We examine the phenomenon of dynamical heterogeneity in computer simulations of an equilibrium, glass-forming liquid. We describe several approaches for quantifying the spatial correlation of single-particle motion, and show that spatial correlations of particle displacements become increasingly long range as the temperature decreases toward the mode-coupling critical temperature.
